IT ALL STARTED OFF AS AN OBSESSION WITH FRESH SPRING ROLLS, A RANDOM TRIP TO A RICE PAPER FACTORY IN VIETNAM AND A COUPLE OF RECIPES FROM OUR MOTHER.

 

FRESH OUT OF AUSTRALIA

IN 2016 AND EARLY 2017, PAPERMILL WAS DOWN AT BONDI BEACH FARMERS MARKET IN SYDNEY SLINGING OUT SPURRITOS TO THE PEOPLE. INITIALLY THIS SPURRITO IDEA WAS JUST A HOBBY, WITH ALEX AND HIS MATES WORKING FROM A 3MX3M TENT (OR 10’X10′) GOING ALONG WITH THE RIDE, TESTING NEW FLAVOURS, FEELING THE MARKET, AND GETTING FEEDBACK FROM OUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS.

SO HOW DID WE END UP IN PHILADELPHIA? WELL, ALEX STARTED DATING A LOCAL PHILLY GIRL. AFTER LONG DELIBERATION, THE OPPORTUNITY OF BRINGING THE SPURRITO TO THE USA (THE LAND OF BURRITOS) HAPPENED! AND WITH THE MONEY HE’D SAVED AND GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS, THE PAPERMILL FOOD TRUCK CAME ABOUT!

OUR TRAVELS THROUGH THE CONTINENT – FROM THE HAWKERS IN MALAYSIA, SCOFFING DOWN FRESH PAPAYA SALADS ON THE ISLANDS OF THAILAND, THE MORNING BOWLS OF PHO AND FRESH SPRING ROLLS IN VIETNAM, TO KOREAN BBQ IN SEOUL – YOU’LL GET A TASTE OF THESE FLAVORS IN OUR SPURRITOS, BOWLS AND BANH MI’S.
